Fighting Big Fish
Some of our FishVault team recently spent a few days with professional bass angler David Dudley on the water. While it was fun to see a master doing his craft, some of the most enjoyable conversations came around the lunch and dinner tables while we swapped stories of our trophy catches and “the ones that got away”. One topic that came up that peaked everyone’s interest was battling large fish. Bass fishing doesn’t require much “battle”. Once you hook the fish, they are typically in the boat in 6-10 seconds. What we talked about are the larger game fish that require time and finesse to get them into the net. Proper Catch and Release Techniques
All of us at FishVault believe in education and conservation when it comes to teaching the next generation about fishing etiquette. One topic that often comes to mind is catch and release. Catch and release is a common practice among fishermen. However, if not practiced correctly, the mortality rate for fish can be extremely high. This means if you catch and release 25 fish in a day poorly, you're doing more harm than the angler who is keeping his limit of fish for the day. This is alarming for most catch and release fishermen as it is a part of their ethical code to "let them go so they can grow".
